Step One: Remove Debris

The very first thing to do in order to clean effectively is to clear and remove debris from the surface. This also falls into the category of “picking up” or “putting things away”. During this step, you’ll go around in the room you’re going to clean and put everything away, followed by removing all loose debris from the surfaces you’re going to clean.

Step Two: Wipe Down Surfaces

The next step in the process of effective cleaning is to wipe down the surfaces that you just removed the debris from. A good way to do this is by using hot water, a microfiber cleaning cloth, and some mild detergent.

After you’ve gathered your supplies, go through and wipe down all the surfaces, handles, and whatever else you’re cleaning to remove any stuck-on debris. Then allow the surfaces to air dry.

Step Three: Disinfect Surfaces

Now that you’ve cleared your surfaces of all debris, this is the time to disinfect the surfaces. To do this you’re going to take your disinfectant and cover the surface then allow it to sit on the surface for at least 60 seconds before wiping and allowing it to air dry.

If you’re not using a multi-surface disinfecting spray and instead are using disinfecting wipes or an aerosol spray that doesn’t require wiping with a cleaning cloth, cover the surface then allow it to air dry.

Another thing to note is that you should always read the label for allotted dry time for all disinfectants. Each one is different.

Step Four: Sanitize Surfaces

The last step in the process of effective cleaning is to sanitize your surfaces. You’ve cleared them, cleaned them, disinfected them, and now you’re going to sanitize them.

This step can be done easily with a simple spray bottle and 70% alcohol solution. Just go around and spray all the surfaces you just disinfected and allow them to air dry. That’s it.
